What makes an area a good place to raise a family? Cost of living, career opportunities, and school systems are some of the main selling points for people when they are looking to move. It turns out that the Garden State is a good place to raise a family. WalletHub's recent report ranked the state of New Jersey as the seventh best place to do so.
In order to compile all 50 states into a ranking, WalletHub examined 51 different criteria points. They were categorized into the following groupings; family fun, health and safety, education and child care, affordability and socio-economics. From there, a point system was applied and then totaled to determine what was highest to lowest on the scale. A score of 100 represented the most favorable condition to raise a family.
New Jersey Score
The Garden State finished with a score of 58.14 points. Affordability, education and child care were the top subjects where New Jersey thrived.
Niche recently compiled a similar report and took it a step further by identifying Mountain Lakes and Princeton Junction as top towns to raise a family. "Living in Princeton Junction offers residents a dense suburban feel and most residents own their homes. In Princeton Junction, there are a lot of parks. and the public schools are highly rated," they say.
Tri-State
In general, all of the tri-state areas scored quite well with WalletHub. New York finished third overall, thanks in-part for finishing second in the family fun category. Connecticut then rounded out the top 10, and scored as the best state in the country in term of affordability.
Each of these three states is in close proximity to New York City. And they each have coastline areas for families to enjoy relaxing beach time.
The details WalletHub is sharing is aimed at helping families consider what is most important to them when looking for a place to build their lives.
