Getting into the holiday spirit is a joy for many, especially when it means cozying up with some Christmas movies. Whether you're all about the predictable rom-coms or you swear by the classics like It's a Wonderful Life, there's something for everyone. But have you ever wondered which Christmas movie reigns supreme in New Jersey?

Looper, a website for movies, TV shows, and video games, decided to settle the debate. They gathered data from IMDB and Google Trends to figure out the top Christmas movie pick in each state.

New Jersey's top pick is far from a traditional Christmas movie.

New Jersey's favorite Christmas movie is a favorite for many. According to the study, it's How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. And if you're wondering which one, the study focuses on the 1966 version. This movie is based on the story written by Dr. Seuss in 1957. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is also the most popular Christmas movie in Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, New Jersey, South Carolina, and West Virginia.

In addition to spotlighting New Jersey's most popular Christmas movie, the study goes on to reveal the most popular Christmas movie in the United States. Securing the top spot is the 2004 comedy Christmas with the Kranks. It’s set in the backdrop of Chicago and stars Tim Allen as Luther Krank and Jamie Lee Curtis as Nora Krank. The storyline unfolds as the Kranks, with their daughter Blair absent, make the unconventional decision to cancel Christmas altogether. much to the surprise of their nosy, holiday-loving neighbors. This choice sets off a chain of humorous decoration-related escapades as the Kranks prepare for a Christmas-less Caribbean cruise. The study also mentioned that Christmas with the Kranks earned a 5% rating on Rotten Tomatoes upon its release, however, it still remains the most popular.

Interestingly, despite claiming the national top spot and being based in Chicago, Christmas with the Kranks does not clinch the title of the most popular Christmas movie in Illinois. The title actually went to the movie Miracle on 34th Street, a classic choice mentioned in the study.
