A wallaby named Rex, which escaped on Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, from the Lots of Love Farm in Williamstown, New Jersey, has been returned to his home.
Monroe Township Police said several police officials responded to sightings of a loose "kangaroo" that was almost hit by a car while crossing the street near East Malaga Road and South Black Horse Pike on Dec. 29. Another call reported that the wallaby had been spotted at Walmart.
According to a post by the farm, Rex was ultimately found at the Williamstown Walmart off the Black Horse Pike on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
"Thank you, everyone. You're all amazing," Lots of Love Farm wrote on Facebook. "He must really like Walmart! LOL."
CBS News Philadelphia reported that a group of teenagers teamed up to capture Rex after he spent almost a full day hopping around Gloucester County. Gavin Buniak and his friends wrangled Rex before getting him back home.
Ron Layden, owner of Lots of Love, said it's possible that someone accidentally left Rex's pen open before he escaped from his enclosure around 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. on Dec. 29.
Lots of Love Farm said that a drone pet-locating company helped with the search for Rex.
Wallabies, which are similar to but smaller than kangaroos, use their long tails for balance. They typically hop around using their powerful hind legs. The creatures are native to the South Pacific, including Australia and Papua New Guinea.
