A Broadway favorite is coming back to Philadelphia in February.
Disney's Beauty and the Beast is scheduled for a two-week run at The Academy of Music from Feb. 11 through 22. This production marks the musical's first North American tour in more than 25 years.
According to a PhillyVoice report, the show returns the familiar fairy tale to the stage with large-scale sets, choreography, and the songs that have enchanted audiences for close to three decades, including “Be Our Guest” and the Oscar-winning title number.
First opening on Broadway in 1994, Beauty and the Beast has earned nine Tony nominations and has become one of the highest revenue-generating shows in Broadway history.
Tickets are on sale now through Ensemble Arts Philly. Prices and availability vary by date and seating section.
According to a Broadway World report, the creative team behind Beauty and the Beast features Matt West directing and choreographing, with Alan Menken composing the score and writing lyrics with Howard Ashman. Additional songs are produced by Menken and Tim Rice, with sets created by Stanley A. Meyer, costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, and lighting by Natasha Katz.
Broadway World noted that previous Disney-produced North American tours of Beauty and the Beast played for almost eight years, for a combined 2,893 performances.
